BIOGRAPHICAL DATA 

BACKGROUND

Dr. Edward L. Wagner was born in Monroe, Louisiana where he graduated from high school in 1967. He attended Southern University where he met and married his wife, the former Veronica Verniece Williams. They are the proud parents of three outstanding children; Voranique, Lee and Vania. Voranique Wagner Simon, their oldest daughter, is a registered Professional Engineer and owns her own engineer firm in Dallas, Texas. She and her husband, Blake, are the parents of Andrew, who is 20 years old. Lee, their only son, is a business owner in Houston, Texas. He has three children: Lotus, 9 years old; Justice 5 years old; and Lilly who is 7 months old. Their youngest daughter, Vania Wagner Walker, is employed at Metroplex hospital in Killeen, Texas as a social worker. She has two sons: Jaylen, 16 years old, and Jackson 12 years old.

MILITARY EXPERIENCE

Dr. Wagner served in the United States Army where his military career as an officer spanned over twenty years where he was branched in the Corps of Engineers. He has management experience in a variety of top-level positions involving: decision making, problem solving, and people-oriented leadership. One of his most rewarding assignments was as Associate Professor in the Department of Engineer at the United States Military Academy, West Point. During this assignment he taught structural steel design and concrete design to the senior class. After a rewarding career, Dr. Wagner retired from the military on 1 December 1991.

He served six years as a board member on the Killeen Independent School District (KISD) board of trustees. He was the first Black ever elected to serve on the KISD board of trustees.

CURRENT POSITION

Dr. Wagner is currently serving as Senior Pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church; a church that he founded in September 1995. He has 39 years in the Gospel Ministry, serving a diverse spectrum of Christian Ministries.

He is a retired Math Professor and chair of the Department of Developmental Studies at Central Texas College.

On April 23, 1999 Governor George W. Bush appointed Dr. Wagner to the Board of Protective and Regulatory Services for a term that expired on February 1, 2005.

He serves as an Executive Board Director for the Baptist General Convention of Texas. A position he was elected to in January 2017.

On July 2017, he was elected as the secretary of the African American Fellowship (AAF) of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
